Short-term loans in Ohio when you need cash

Fresh Hope Financial is a loan-request service, not a lender. Its current Ohio providers and products are unconfirmed. For loans made under Ohio's Short-Term Loan Law, the interest rate alone does not describe the full cost; the agreement's fees and payment schedule matter.

Interest rates, fees and APR

Ohio Revised Code 1321.40 allows interest of up to 28% annually and specifies separate permitted fees for covered short-term loans. These include a monthly maintenance charge and, for amounts of at least $500, an origination charge. The disclosed APR can therefore differ from the interest rate.

Compare the finance charge, total payments and APR in the same agreement. A headline rate is an incomplete basis for choosing between offers, especially when the two schedules have different lengths or charge maintenance by month.

Loan amounts and repayment terms

Section 1321.39 limits the covered loan to $1,000 and generally requires 91 days to one year. A shorter term is possible when total monthly payment meets the statute's test: no more than the greater of 6% of verified gross monthly income or 7% of verified net monthly income.

This is a rule for that lending framework, not every product marketed as an Ohio installment loan. Ask which law and license support the actual agreement. Bank loans, other licensed installment products and earned-wage services should not inherit this table automatically.

Short-term loan fee example

Illustration only, not a Fresh Hope quote: for a $500 covered loan, the monthly maintenance ceiling is $30, because that is less than 10% of $500. The permitted origination component is $10. Three assumed monthly maintenance charges would add $90 before interest.

This is component arithmetic, not a complete loan schedule, maximum lawful total or APR calculation. Exact interest depends on the agreement and balance over time, and other statutory limits apply. Ask for the lender's complete dated payment schedule rather than adding a national payday fee to this example.

Budget for every payment

Write the proposed payments on a calendar beside rent, insurance, utilities and existing debt. For an installment structure, repeat the check through the final due date. A first payment that fits one paycheck does not establish that the full series is affordable.

If a payment would force another borrowing request, compare a smaller amount, a bill arrangement or an alternative from your existing bank or credit union. Do not select a longer term solely because it lowers the displayed payment; compare the resulting total repayment too.

Check an Ohio lender's license

Ohio's Division of Financial Institutions warns consumers against unlicensed or unregistered lending and directs them to its online license lookup or NMLS Consumer Access. Search the legal company on the agreement, including its Ohio authority, rather than relying only on the website's trade name.

A request-service confirmation is not a lender approval. Fresh Hope has not confirmed the Ohio provider, inquiry type, available amount or funding timetable here. Ask when a credit inquiry occurs, which entity receives your information and whether you are entering a new lender's process.

Early repayment rights and complaints

For covered short-term loans, section 1321.41 bars a fee for paying in full early and prohibits taking a vehicle title or other collateral as security. These protections should not be assumed for an agreement made under another authority.

If the schedule or a debit is disputed, save the contract, written approvals, receipts and account entries. The Ohio Division accepts lender complaints; the contract must identify the regulator's complaint contact. Ask the lender for a written payoff or payment explanation, and contact the bank promptly about payment-authorization problems.

General borrowing checklist

Confirm availability in Ohio

Ask the lender whether the specific product is available at your address in Ohio. A general loan label or a state-guide page does not establish availability.

Fresh Hope Financial is a loan-request service. Submitting a request does not guarantee an offer, approval or funding.

Compare the complete borrowing cost

Read APR, fees, total repayment and every due date in any actual offer. Do not infer the cost from the name of a product or from a single payment.

Check the repayment arrangement

A payday loan often has one due date, while an installment loan has multiple scheduled payments. Cash advance is a broad label; ask which repayment arrangement the lender means.

Verify the lender’s identity

Identify the lender and check the authorization relevant to the product and your location. State requirements and permitted products can differ; verify the current position before accepting an offer.

Read the form before submitting

Review the consent and privacy information, check what information is requested and ask about credit inquiries and payment collection.

Consider alternatives to borrowing

A payment arrangement, a bank or credit-union option, or trusted personal or community help may be worth exploring. Check the costs and conditions of each option before deciding.

Questions about borrowing in Ohio

Is 28% the complete cost limit for an Ohio short-term loan?

No. It is the statutory interest-rate ceiling. Permitted charges can make the disclosed APR and total finance charge higher.

Can the term be shorter than 91 days?

Yes, under the income-based monthly-payment exception in section 1321.39. Do not assume every borrower qualifies for the shorter schedule.

Does the $1,000 limit cover every installment loan?

No. This page's amount and fee table applies to the Short-Term Loan Law. Verify the authority for another product.

Can a covered lender charge an early-payoff fee?

Section 1321.41 prohibits a charge for prepaying the covered short-term loan in full before maturity.

Where should an Ohio borrower verify the company?

Use the Division of Financial Institutions' online lookup or NMLS Consumer Access, matching the creditor's legal name and Ohio authority.

Does this page confirm that a loan is available in Ohio?

No. Ask the lender about the exact product and your address. This guide explains questions to check; it does not confirm product availability.

Where do I find the actual costs?

Read the amount, APR, fees, total repayment and payment schedule in the lender’s actual offer before deciding.
